A general strike brought Greece to a halt today as more than 10,000 people march on parliament as protests continue over the fatal police shooting of a schoolboy.
The demonstration in Athens was part of a previously scheduled nationwide strike but has developed into a protest against the government’s handling of the crisis that has seen four days of rioting.
Flights were grounded, banks and schools closed and hospital services restricted.

BANGKOK: Anti-government protesters ended their paralysing eight-day blockade of Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport yesterday, allowing for the resumption of the first handful of flights and raising the hopes of thousands of stranded travellers.
A Thai Airways domestic flight from Phuket with about 300 passengers was the first to land, touching down shortly after 2 pm, followed shortly by the first international flight, a Royal Jordanian airliner from Amman.

At least 20 people, including one policeman, have been killed in riots in the Nigerian city of Jos after local elections, aid workers say.
A local journalist told the BBC that Muslim opposition supporters had gone on the rampage when they heard their candidate to head the council had lost.
