At least five people have been killed in a suspected US missile strike on a tribal district in north-west Pakistan, security officials have said.
The attack hit a suspected militant hide-out in North Waziristan, near the Afghanistan border, the officials said.
The strike comes two days after Taleban rebels in the area warned of reprisals if such attacks continued.

Pentagon secretly attacked al Qaeda worldwide

Since 2004, the Pentagon has used broad, secret authority to carry out about 12 attacks against al Qaeda and other militants in Syria, Pakistan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and several other Persian Gulf states, The New York Times reported on its Web site on Sunday. The order identifies 15 to 20 countries where Qaeda militants were believed to be operating or to have sought sanctuary, a senior administration official said.
