World leaders condemn horrific attacks in Mumbai

(CNN) — The following is reaction by world leaders to the attacks in Mumbai, India.
Spokesperson for U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
“The secretary-general condemns the rash of shootings and blasts in Mumbai today, which killed and wounded a large number of people. Such violence is totally unacceptable. The secretary-general reiterates his conviction that no cause or grievance can justify indiscriminate attacks against civilians. He calls for the perpetrators to be brought to justice swiftly.

Al Qaeda just one suspect in India terrorist attacks

The sophistication of Wednesday’s assault in Mumbai and the targeting of U.S. and British citizens are the hallmarks of groups affiliated with Al Qaeda, but an array of other organizations have launched attacks in India and may also have played a role, officials and counter-terrorism experts said.

Mumbai toll climbs as hotel standoffs continue

MUMBAI, India (CNN) — The morning after teams of gunmen carried out a brazen series of attacks across southern Mumbai — killing scores of people and taking hostages in multiple locations — the situation remained chaotic.
The death toll from the series of coordinated attacks was at 101 by midday Thursday authorities said. The number of people wounded in the attacks have also been raised to 314, said Pradeep Indulkar, deputy secretary for Maharashtra, the state where Mumbai is located.
