Malaysia makes donation of RM3.5m
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is making an immediate donation of US$1 million (RM3.5 million) as humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the money had been channelled through non-profit medical relief organisation Mercy Malaysia to deliver relief supplies to the Palestinian victims.
The Foreign Ministry, he said, had reopened its Fund for Palestine to receive and coordinate the collection of assistance from Malaysians.
Abdullah said he was also writing letters to world leaders to request that their governments use their personal influence to convince Israeli leaders to stop the bombardment of Gaza and agree to a cease fire.
The prime minister also called on the United National Security Council to carry out its moral duty to stop the atrocities committed by Israel and demand a ceasefire on all sides.
Failure to do so, he said, would worsen the crisis, endanger Palestinian unity and threaten the peace and security of the wider Middle East.
“Any ground offensive into Gaza by Israel is an act of total war which the international community should not tolerate and I note that the UNSC continues to fail to act on this critical matter.
“On behalf of the government and people of Malaysia, I wish to reiterate my gravest concern that Israel is continuing the bombardments against Gaza without any due regard for human lives or world public opinion.”
